How do I access a copy of a thesis/dissertation online through the Leatherby Libraries?

Answer

To locate the full text of a thesis/dissertation, you will want to search the ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Global database.

Begin at the Library’s homepage, locate the “Search Databases by title or subject” area at the bottom of the page, and click the “General Databases” link.

At the “Electronic Resources” page, click on "P," then locate “ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Global - ProQuest” and click on the link. You will be prompted to enter your Chapman username and password.

Searching for a Thesis/Dissertation on Your Topic

If you are searching for a thesis or dissertation on your topic, construct targeted searches by combining terms in the search fields, specify a date range to limit materials within a time period if you prefer, and click “Search.”

At the results page, depending on the availability, you may be able to read the abstract (summary of the thesis or dissertation), order a copy of the document, and/or view the full text of a specific thesis or dissertation.

Locating a Particular Thesis/Dissertation with a Known Citation

At the “Advanced Search” page, enter the given information of the thesis or dissertation you are looking for, such as title and author, in the search fields, choose the appropriate field names from the drop down list, and click “Search.” Note: Entering the first few words from the title is sufficient enough if combined with author information. Remember to enter the author’s last name first, followed by a comma, and then the first name.

Once you locate the thesis or dissertation that you need at the results page, look for the “Full Text – PDF” link, if available, to download the full text.

Note: You may request to borrow a thesis or dissertation through our Interlibrary Loan service if no full text is available online. However, it depends on the institution’s policy for borrowing privileges. Please refer to the Interlibrary Loan page for more information on Interlibrary Loan service.
